Paul followed his father in joining the engineering section of Transport for London (TfL) in 1982. Since then he has worked in rail operational safety, engineering & construction safety, including a period at British Telecom cable engineering in 1989 through to the mid 90’s.
During the late 1990’s, Paul worked in project management on the Jubilee Line Extension Project in East London. Paul’s career then progressed from 2002-2013 with senior appointments at TfL across health & safety audit, rail operations & capital programmes as the London metro underwent massive infrastructure investment. Simultaneously Paul completed his Executive MBA during this time in the UK. Paul is a full member of the International Institute of Risk Management (IIRSM), Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) and Chartered Management Institute (CMI)
In 2013 he was appointed Head of Safety for Great Western Rail (GWR), one of the UK’s largest mainline train operating companies. Paul led the team that gave GWR their first RoSPA Safety Award.
In 2015, Paul was appointed Senior H+S Manager at Qatar Rail, the client organization responsible for the $60 bn Doha Metro project. Since 2015 the construction workforce increased from 27,000 to 68,000. Despite the challenges, a 60% decrease in accidents was achieved & Qatar Rail have now gained full ISO certification & seven international safety awards for various lines on the metro project.
Paul is based Saudi Arabia & has been the HSE Director since December 2017.
