Usman Muhammad

Usman brings extensive experience in operational railway engineering and asset management, with specialisation in Contact systems, High Voltage and Low Voltage distribution networks, and signalling power. As a Senior Electrification & Plant Asset Engineer in Network Rail, he focused on program delivery, leading asset strategy development, business planning, and financial management of renewals portfolios.

Since joining Network Rail in Sep 2017, Usman quickly advanced by showcasing his expertise in project assurance and strategic asset management. His efforts were crucial in managing renewals programs worth £60M and £110M, and successfully advocating for significant budget increases to support renewals in the Central Route. Key achievements include delivering the £10M 'Commonwealth Games E&P Resilience Works' within six months, leading the 'East West Rail' project, and investigating 'Current distribution in earth return conductors'.

Usman joined Network Rail Consulting (NRC) in May 2024 as a Managing Consultant Asset Management and Maintenance to support NRC Australia.

Prior to his tenure at Network Rail, Usman worked in CH2M HILL as an Electrification and Plant (E&P) Design Engineer. Here, he managed key projects such as the Western Capacity Improvement Programme and contributed to international bids like the Dubai Metro Route 2020. His role encompassed the full spectrum of design responsibilities, from initial bidding stages to detailed technical documentation and compliance with rail investment processes.

Usman is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. He is certified by the Institute of Asset Management (MIAM) and is a Member of IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology).

He completed MEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Birmingham and an Executive MBA from Aston University.

Usman is based in London.
