Simon Whitehorn

Simon is an experienced railway operations professional with over 30 years’ experience in the UK rail industry. Simon started his career in frontline operational, planning and route management positions and has been promoted over time to a senior leadership role within Network Rail. He therefore deeply understands the practicalities of railway operations and operational planning for high speed rail.  He has worked across a wide range of functions and business sectors in the British Railway Sector, including high-speed lnter-City passenger rail, freight, operational planning and timetabling. He was General Manager for the West Coast Main Line leading the day to day management of the busiest mixed traffic railway in Europe. 

In his most recent position with Network Rail, Simon has led the development and implementation of the cross industry National Operating Strategy, which is the largest business change programme to impact the British rail industry. He has been instrumental in the introduction of traffic management tools to support the operations staff with real time service delivery.
