Sophie Smith

Sophie is an experienced railway engineer specializing in Asset Management with a broad range of knowledge in railway civil design.

Working as part of the integrated operations project team delivering the California High-Speed Rail system, Sophie has developed and implemented asset management specifications, policies and procedures covering key railroad disciplines, ensuring all relevant procedural and legislative requirements are fulfilled. In addition, Sophie identified and defined processes required for current and future efficient operation of the High-Speed Rail system to meet the business requirements.

Sophie started her career as a Civil Design Engineer and then progressed to Senior Asset Engineer with Network Rail where she has developed and defined scopes for large scale geotechnical and drainage railway schemes across England. Sophie’s expertise and technical railroad skills provide whole life, maintainable, cost effective solutions rather than short term fixes.

Her inclusive leadership style helps agencies to develop large projects by realizing collective goals and sustaining dependable day-to-day asset management. She maintains excellent knowledge of best practice and proposes a fresh approach to asset management activities.

Sophie is an Incorporated Civil Engineer, a Member of the Institute of Asset Management and holds a BEng in Civil Engineering from UMIST in Manchester, UK.
