Network Rail Consulting appoints Barny Daley as Global Technical Director

 Barny Daley is appointed to the role of Global Technical Director at Network Rail Consulting. 

Barny is taking the lead on interaction between NRC and Network Rail and aims to strengthen the collaborative relationship to enable the sharing of knowledge and best practice between NRC’s international clients and the operator of the UK railway.

Barny is a Chartered Engineer with 30 years’ railway engineering experience and achievement in both private and public sectors.

Barny began his career at British Rail in 1986 as a sponsored student and worked briefly in signalling design before moving into maintenance where he gained multi-disciplinary experience working for Amey and Carillion on the Chiltern, Western, Southern and West Coast routes. In 2004 he joined Network Rail overseeing the introduction of the upgraded West Coast infrastructure into passenger service.

In 2009 he became Head of Infrastructure Reliability leading a team of cross-functional engineers to reduce the number of infrastructure failures impacting the railway by more than 20% over 5 years. During this time, he was technical lead for the Intelligent Infrastructure project which has invested £80m on remote condition monitoring for almost 40,000 assets. Most recently Barny was Deputy Chief Engineer for Network Rail, leading on engineering assurance, interoperability and capability development for engineers across the company.
