Derek Price

Derek has over 30 years’ experience in the application of systems thinking to major infrastructure projects across transport, power and defence industries. He has broad capabilities having acted as functional leader, technical specialist, project manager, and business unit manager with profit and loss accountability. He is actively involved in the development of strategies for applying systems engineering to infrastructure projects, both within Network Rail and industry communities.

Derek joined Network Rail in 2007, joining the Network Rail Consulting UK technical team in April 2022.

Prior to joining Network Rail, Derek spent 16 years in engineering consultancy with Parsons Brinckerhoff Ltd UK (now WSP), culminating in the role of Head of Systems Engineering. With Network Rail, Derek spent 11 years providing strategic technical direction and leadership for programme systems engineering activities within the Thameslink Programme, before taking up the position of Technical Head of Discipline (Systems Integration) for the Infrastructure Projects Division.

Derek is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, a Member of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), and Chair of the INCOSE UK Advisory Board. He has a BSc(hons) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, and a MPhil in Research & Development of high-speed local area networks.
