Paul O’Brien

Paul is an experienced Rail Operator with 26 years in the rail industry in the United Kingdom and the Middle East. Originally he began railway career in revenue protection before moving into rail operations as a Train Driver, then into Train Driver Management, before progressing to standards, assurance and compliance positions in both passenger and freight rail operations.

Paul joined Network Rail in October 2023 and is working as a Management Consultant, Rail Operations for the Queensland Rail Cross River Rail (CRR) project.

Prior to joining Network Rail, Paul was part of the team responsible for the launch of High Speed Passenger Train services in Saudi Arabia, leading on and for the Passenger Business Unit responsibilities included; the testing and commissioning of the high speed train, ERTMS Level 2 signalling system, and dynamic testing of rail infrastructure.

Paul is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Rail Operators and holds a BSc in Rail Operations Management.

Paul is based in London.
