Matthew Diggle

Matthew has over 40 years of experience in the railway industry, covering rolling stock manufacturing, signalling data preparation, and the development of safety-critical software applications. He has spent the last 15 years working on the development and implementation of signalling automation and traffic management systems, acting as Engineering Manager and Design Authority for activities taking place both in the UK and around the world.

Matthew joined Network Rail Consulting in February 2024 as a technical specialist in traffic management systems, working as part of the systems integration team on the Transport for New South Wales Digital Upgrade Project.

Prior to joining Network Rail Consulting, Matthew was Lead Technical Authority at Hitachi Information Control Systems Europe for over 10 years. Before this, he worked for Signalling Solutions Limited, GE Transportation, and AEA Technology Rail in systems development roles, and for Lloyd’s Register Rail, as a safety engineering consultant.

Matthew is a Chartered Engineer and a Chartered IT Professional. He is a member of the British Computing Society, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers, and the Association for Project Management. He has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering and has published papers in industry journals and at national and international conferences.

Matthew is based in Sydney.
