Sharon Mawhinney

Sharon has over 30 years’ experience in the infrastructure and transport sector, with a specialisation in Rail, where she has worked as the client, asset owner, developer, operator, maintainer and consultant across the UK, Australia and New Zealand. She excels at business strategy and planning, project definition and development, transaction deals and asset management, drawing on her unique, broad-based experience across the entire asset lifecycle and her practical foundations operating and maintaining end state assets.

Sharon joined Network Rail Consulting in October 2023 as the State Manager for New South Wales. She is responsible for leading the NSW team, continuing to expand NRC’s project portfolio, managing client accounts and ensuring projects are delivered to client expectations.

Prior to Network Rail, she started her career at British Rail and the Transport Executive in Scotland, before moving to Australia, where she has held several senior leadership roles in consultancies, including Director of her own business, General Manager at Amey Consulting, NSW Advisory Lead at Arcadis and Rail Sector Lead at Evans & Peck.

Sharon holds Chartered Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK, a bachelor’s degree with honours in Civil Engineering & Economics from the University of Dundee and a post graduate diploma in Applied Finance from Kaplan Professional in Australia.

Sharon is based in Sydney.
