Sophie Smith

Sophie is an experienced Civil Engineer and Asset Manager who has a mix of design, construction, and project management expertise within the railroad industry. Sophie has extensive hands-on civil asset management experience with over 16 years in the industry.

Sophie joined Network Rail Consulting in March 2023. Sophie previously joined NRC in 2016, spending two years in Sacramento working for the California High-Speed Project as Lead Asset Manager developing Asset Class Strategies and Asset Information Standards. She then moved to New York to work with NYMTA developing Asset Information Strategies and Guidance.

Prior to joining Network Rail Consulting, Sophie was a Senior Asset Engineer for Network Rail managing a variety of assets along 2,000 miles of track. Sophie led teams with a proactive maintenance and renewals approach to asset management and developed multi-million-pound scopes for large scale geotechnical and drainage schemes. Before this, Sophie worked for Hyder Consulting. Joining as a graduate, Sophie undertook railroad-based design and site management projects.

Sophie is an Incorporated Engineer with the Institution of Civils Engineers, and a Member of the Institute of Asset Management.

Sophie is based in London.
